Anambra Govt imposes curfew on after killing of 9 people

Anambra State Government has imposed curfew in 6 communities following the killing of about 9 persons.

This is few hours after gunmen attacked Igbariam community in Oyi Local Government Area in the late hours of Monday.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga says the assailants invaded the community in their numbers armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons killing about 9 people.

But the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria South-East Zone, Gidado Sadiq says 19 people including women and children were slaughtered and 23 cows killed by the invading gunmen.

While the police say investigations are on to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, the State Government on its part has imposed curfew from 7pm to 6am on the affected areas. They include Igbariam, Aguleri, Umueri, Nteje, Awkuzu And Umunya communities.
