The new F1 season is just weeks away with the first car launch set for next week.

The 2022 F1 season will see drastic changes to the cars lining up on the grid and nearly every team has announced when they’ll unveil their new livery. Fans got their first snippet of what 2022 cars will look like when a prototype model was introduced at the British Grand Prix last year.

The new regulations put in place are designed to promote better racing and more overtaking with this year’s cars expected to counterbalance the downforce lost on the previous models.

A heavy onus was put on emphasising ‘ground effect’ to help create downforce, pushing the cars into the track.

The most noticeable changes will be on both the front and rear wings while over-wheel winglets will be another striking feature.

The cars will also have noticeable bigger tyres – increasing from 13 inches to 18 inches.

As was the case in 2014 at the start of the hybrid era, there were plenty of unknowns about what to expect from the first race of the season.

Red Bull had dominated the previous four seasons with Sebastian Vettel winning consecutive Drivers’ Championships.

But Mercedes caught their rivals by surprise as they dominated the entire season with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg winning 16 of the 19 races that year.

Now F1 enters a new era with teams working on the 2022 car since 2017 and they’re now set to unveil them from next week.
