MohBad: Coroner fixes date to present witnesses
The Court, sitting in Lagos, has fixed October 13 to accept witnesses over the coroner inquest into the death of late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, during its first hearing.
CityNews Nigeria reports that Mohbad, a former signee of the Marlian Record label, controversially died on September 12 2023, at age 27.
Given the circumstances surrounding his death, thousands of Nigerians have demanded justice for Mohbad in nationwide protests.
Falana & Falana Chambers, in a letter dated September 18, wrote the chief Coroner at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja, requesting an inquest to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.
In response to the chamber’s request, the Lagos State Judiciary, in a letter dated September 26, by the Chief Coroner of the state, Justice Mojisola A. Dada, announced that the inquiry into Mohbad’s death will begin on Friday, September 29, 2023.
The Coroner’s first sitting was held Friday at the Candide Johnson court in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Speaking after the Coroner’s close-door session with the parties’ representatives in the case, the lawyer representing Mohbad’s family, Funmi Falana, told BBC that the sitting was to determine the persons of interest to be invited to the Court.
“What we did today was to determine how and what procedures to follow to help us get justice. We have fixed October 13 for our witnesses to present their evidence in court”, she stated.
