FIRS’ Acting Chairman Speaks On Increasing Taxes
The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has said that it has no plans to increase taxes further.
The Acting Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, disclosed this on Thursday in a statement by his Media and Communication aide, Dare Adekanmbi.
Speaking to heavy tax-paying companies in Nigeria, assured that the government will not increase taxes despite its drive to grow its tax-to-GDP ratio to 18 per cent from 10.86 per cent.
“Our belief, understanding and vision as a revenue-generating agency is not to introduce any new tax as we only want to use data to improve compliance,” he “aid.
“Our plan is simple. We want to grow tax revenue, and we only want to tax prosperity and not poverty. Therefore, it is not our interest to kill the trees that bear the fruits”, he said.
