Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-EKong has called on soccer-loving Nigerians to rally behind the team.
The Super Eagles started their campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a disappointing 1-1 draw against the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea.
Jose Peseiro’s side must now avoid defeat against hosts Cote d’Ivoire in their next game on Thursday to boost their chances of making it to the next round.
Despite their not-too-impressive display, Troost-Ekong stated that it is important for the fans to keep supporting the team.
“I just want to say thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” the PAOK Salonica of Greece defender said after the game.
” Of course, we’re disappointed; we feel the same way as you guys, we wanted to win today, but I think we have to look at the positives.
“We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game, and will be very motivated Thursday. Don’t give up on us.”
Thursday’s encounter billed for the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan will kick-off at 5pm.
