AFCON 2023: Troost-Ekong equals Keshi’s goal record

William Troost-Ekong has equaled Stephen Keshi’s record as the highest-scoring defender in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, CN reports.

The centre-back scored his fourth goal in the AFCON finals in Nigeria’s semi-final victory against South Africa on Wednesday night.

Keshi, a former Super Eagles captain and coach, was previously the only defender who achieved the feat.

Troost-Ekong opened his AFCON account in Nigeria’s 2-1 semi-final victory against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the AFCON 2019 finals hosted by Egypt.

The 30-year-old doubled his tally in a group game against Sudan two years ago in Cameroon.

The PAOK Salonica of Greece defender has scored twice for the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON 2023 finals in Cote d’Ivoire.
