Former Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero, has argued that Brazilian and Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior will still win the 2024 Ballon d’Or despite poor 2024 Copa America.

Before the 2024 Copa America, most pundits believe that Vinicius has done enough to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or. But his overall performance at the tournament has forced many to start thinking otherwise.

Recall that Brazil were knocked out of the 2024 Copa America in the quarter-finals. Vinicius didn’t feature in the game as he was serving a one-match suspension.

Before Brazil’s unexpected exit from the tournament, the 24-year-old skillful winger had scored just two goals which left many to believe that he ghosted in the competition.

The argument now is that his Real Madrid teammate, Jude Bellingham, who has led England to the final of the Euro 2024 is more deserving of the award.

But Sergio Aguero doesn’t want to accept that as he insisted that Vinicius’ contribution to Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League and La Liga triumphs was incomparable. He noted that the Brazilian was better than Kylian Mbappe during the 2023-2024 season.

“Ballon d’Or? Viní Jr. didn’t disappear in Copa America. It’s just that Brazil are going through a tough time and he needs a good team,” Aguero said as quoted by Madrid Zone.

“I look at the whole season, and Viní had an incredible season, this season, he was better than Mbappé.

“It doesn’t mean he’s a better player than Mbappé. But this season, he was better.

“For me, Mbappé is much more complete. But this season, every time Vini got the ball in the middle of the pitch, you can feel danger.

“Mbappé, when a team is in a deep block, it gets hard for him. Vini is a lot more skilled there.
