Lamine Yamal Said He Hasn’t Spoken With Lionel Messi About Viral Picture

Spanish fast-rising superstar, Lamine Yamal has revealed that he has not spoken with Lionel Messi about the viral picture showing when the latter was bathing the former.

Due to how prolific Lamine Yamal has been since the Euro 2024 competition started in Germany, most pundits have compared him with Messi, his childhood idol.

Amid that, a picture reportedly taken in 2008 showing when Messi was bathing baby Yamal has gone viral.

FC Barcelona Foundation, UNICEF and Spanish media outlet, Diario Sport were said to be the brains behind the picture. The campaign also featured other players associated with Barcelona at the time.

However, it was the picture featuring Messi and Yamal that has gained more prominence lately due to the unstoppable performance of the Spain international at the Euro 2024.

When asked about the picture, Yamal who turns 17 years old today, July 13, 2024, told Jijantes FC, “I have never spoken to Messi about the photo where he was bathing me.

“At the time of the photo with Messi, I was not aware, obviously.

“My father had it saved and we never brought it to light basically because of the issue of comparisons, which are never good.”

Note that Lamine Yamal has grown to become the youngest player to play for FC Barcelona, Spain’s national team, and in the European Championship.

He also crowned his growing list of records with being the youngest player to score at the Euros and the youngest player to provide three assists in a single edition of the continental competition.

Due to his record-breaking rise in the game, most football enthusiasts believe that the Spanish winger could be as great as Messi. But Yamal doesn’t want to be compared to the Argentine football icon.

“No one is bothered by being compared to the best player in history”, he said.

“But those are things that remain because I will never be like him.”

Lamine Yamal is on the verge of becoming the youngest player to lift the European Championship. To achieve the said feat, he must help Spain beat England in the Euro 2024 final at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.
