Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most prolific defenders in Europe and has been on the radar of coach Erik ten Hag for two seasons.
The 24-year-old Dutch defender who started his professional football career at Ajax joined Bayern Munich from Juventus on July 19, 2022, for a transfer fee worth €67 million.
Since his arrival at Bayern Munich, Matthijs de Ligt has made 73 appearances in which he scored five goals and provided two assists. His deal with the club will expire on June 30, 2027.
Despite that, Manchester United are making efforts to sign him this summer, a decision Erik ten Hag claimed didn’t come from him as he stressed that he knows the Netherlands international well enough.
“It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come”, the Dutch tactician told AD Sportwereld.
“I know Matthijs well and I will not deny that.
“I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern Munich (from Juventus) but believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process (of targeting signings).”
