The German Agency for International Corporation has trained 26 members of the National Youth Service Corp in Edo on employable skills.

The training aimed at equipping the corps members with the necessary skills to secure gainful employment after their service year as well as expose the participants to the needs of the labour market was held on Tuesday in Benin and also took place simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos.

The one-day event, with the theme, “From Clicks to Progress,” featured sessions on digitalisation, entrepreneurship, and employment promotion measures.

Participants were also schooled on high-priority employability skills, Curriculum Vitae writing, and interview preparation tips.

Programme Component Manager on Gender and Inclusion of GIZ’s Skills Development for Youth Employment, Helen Igboka, urged the participants to leverage on digitalisation and entrepreneurship to advance their careers.

Igboka said there were opportunities in digitalisation, entrepreneurship, legal migration services and various employment promotion measures of the GIZ that the corps members could leverage.

She said these opportunities under its Sustainable Economic Development Cluster (SEDEC) would advance their careers post-NYSC service.

She noted, “I call on the participants to leverage digitalisation and entrepreneurship to advance their careers.

“There are opportunities in digitalisation, entrepreneurship, legal migration services and various employment promotion measures of the GIZ that the corps members can leverage.”

In his remark, the Country Director of GIZ Nigeria, Markus Wagner, said the German organisation aimed to empower the youths with the tools and opportunities needed in life.

Wanger, represented by the Head of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme, Duke Benjamin, said this would ensure a lasting impact and a seamless transition into future careers.

He added, “This programme is aimed at empowering you with the tools and opportunities needed to make a lasting impact and ensure a seamless transition into your future careers.

“It also provided a platform for peer-to-peer learning and networking to facilitate a smooth transition as well as promoting gainful employment.”
