The recent launch of the National Insurance Commission’s (NAICOM) licensing portal has been met with criticism from insurance agents, who claim that their concerns and inputs were ignored in the portal’s development.
The agents argue that the portal’s omission of their association’s certificate/receipt as a requirement for registration/licensing will allow unqualified individuals to enter the agency business and deprive the association of revenue.
The agents also expressed frustration that the portal does not address their existing challenges, including the inability to complete their renewal/licensing processes online. They are calling on NAICOM to address their concerns and ensure that the portal is user-friendly and inclusive.
NAICOM had unveiled the portal on August 1, 2024, touting it as a solution to streamline the licensing process for insurance agents. However, the agents’ concerns highlight the need for NAICOM to engage with stakeholders and ensure that the portal meets their needs.
The controversy surrounding the portal’s launch raises questions about NAICOM’s consultation process and its commitment to inclusivity.
As the insurance industry regulator, NAICOM must ensure that its initiatives are well-received by all stakeholders, including insurance agents. The association’s certificate/receipt is a critical requirement for registration/licensing, and its omission from the portal is a significant oversight.
NAICOM must take immediate action to address the agents’ concerns and ensure that the portal is revised to include the necessary requirements. Failure to do so may lead to a loss of trust among insurance agents and undermine the effectiveness of the portal.
