In June, the former militant leader had claimed that the bulk cases of oil theft recorded in the Niger Delta were traceable to the Nigerian Army and Navy.

Addressing State House Correspondents, Asari said: “The military is at the centre of oil theft and we have to make this very clear to the Nigerian public that 99 per cent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigerian military, the Army and the Navy especially.”

However, the former militant leader distanced ethnic nationalities from oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

In his latest video, Asari said: “It’s the president I’m talking about and since they don’t want us to keep secret; I won’t. It’s the president that asked me to talk to the press.

“If they ask me the root cause of bunkering, I shouldn’t talk? Should I be afraid of calling those behind bunkering?

“It’s not Ijaw, Ikwerre, or Ogoni boys that are involved in bunkering. It’s the people in the military that pay them to carry out bunkering, they collect their own and give the boys peanuts.

“Everybody knows it but because we are afraid of coup, they are keeping quiet.”
