In a distressing incident on Sunday, March 16, 18 passengers aboard an ABC Transport bus were abducted by armed kidnappers in Oloma, Ofu Local Government Area, a border town between Kogi and Enugu States. The passengers, including the driver, were traveling from the South-East to Abuja when they were hijacked by the gunmen.

Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, the Security Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, confirmed the abduction, revealing that security agencies, including the Military, Police, DSS, NSCDC, and local vigilante groups, have mobilized to track down the criminals and secure the safe release of the hostages.

“We are actively pursuing the kidnappers, and I am confident that the passengers will be freed unharmed,” Omodara stated. He emphasized the critical role of community cooperation in providing timely intelligence, which has been instrumental in the ongoing operation.

Omodara also reassured the families of the abducted passengers, stating that efforts to ensure their safe return remain the priority of the security forces. He reiterated that Kogi is committed to becoming a safer place for both residents and travelers.

Despite the challenges posed by increasing criminal activities in the region, Omodara remains optimistic about the state’s ongoing security initiatives and their ability to address the rising tide of kidnappings.

Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Command for further comments were unsuccessful as the spokesperson’s phone was not reachable.
