Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected in Zamfara State on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state conclude arrangements for the official reception of Governor Dauda Lawal into the party.
CityNews reports that the state APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Gusau on Saturday (today).
He described the governor’s defection as a welcome development, noting that the party remained a political home for him.
“We all know that Zamfara has for long been one of the party’s stronghold state which the defected Governor was once a bonified member. Now that he decided to return home, having been satisfied that the APC remains his second choice after the one he dumped for obvious reasons,” he said.
Maikatako added that the Vice President, alongside the national leadership of the party, would be in the state for a grand reception in honour of the governor.
The chairman urged party members across the state to turn out in large numbers for the event, describing the visit as crucial for strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
“As state party chairman, I urge all our esteemed members across the 147 wards of the 14 local government areas in the state to come out en masse to honour the Presidential visit which is meant for achieving more strength and popularity of the APC before the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Maikatako also called on members to put aside internal differences and embrace unity within the party.
“I am calling all our esteemed members to be united and forget differences that caused friction within the party in the state. We are one family that has many things in common, especially in the area of making Zamfara and Nigeria great again,” he added.
Also speaking, former state APC chairman, Lawali Liman, appealed to members to take the message of unity to their respective wards and local government areas.
He stressed that the party remained a united platform pursuing common goals for its success.
According to him, members must work collectively to consolidate the party’s strength and ensure its victory in future political contests.
