I’m Not Planted By APC To Destroy PDP – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly rejected allegations by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, that he is working as an agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the Jahi and Kuje districts of Abuja.

Describing the accusation as “embarrassing and baseless,” Wike said the claim reflects inconsistency on the part of the Bauchi governor.

According to him, such allegations are not new, noting that many individuals who previously accused him of disloyalty to the PDP have since defected to the APC.

“These accusations of me being planted are not new. Those who made them before—where are they today? They are now in APC,” Wike said.

He questioned the credibility of the claims, arguing that he has remained in the PDP despite openly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since the 2023 elections.

“I have said clearly that I will not leave the PDP. At the same time, I will continue to support the President. That has always been my position,” he added.

Wike also accused Bala Mohammed of political inconsistency, alleging that the governor had previously sought his support to influence the emergence of the PDP National Secretary—an appeal he said he rejected.

The FCT Minister further claimed that during the 2022–2023 election period, Mohammed privately approached him in Port Harcourt to propose support for Tinubu, despite later aligning with former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

“The same person who came to meet me to support Tinubu later moved to Atiku. This is the kind of inconsistency Nigerians are watching,” Wike said.

He criticised Mohammed’s recent political stance, describing him as unstable and lacking in clear direction.

Wike also dismissed the governor’s demand for the position of PDP National Secretary for his faction, arguing that such a request was unrealistic given his current political standing.

“You cannot negotiate from a position of weakness and demand such a key position. That is not how it works,” he stated.

Despite ongoing tensions within the party, Wike maintained that the PDP remains strong, pointing to the successful conduct of its recent national convention as evidence of its resilience.

Reaffirming his loyalty, he insisted he has no intention of leaving the party, even as he continues to back the current administration.

Meanwhile, Bala Mohammed had earlier accused Wike of political persecution during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. He alleged that the FCT Minister was behind legal actions initiated against him, including petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mohammed also criticised President Tinubu’s administration, describing Wike as a negative influence and accusing him of working against the PDP from within.

“You cannot be in two places at the same time,” Mohammed said, questioning Wike’s dual alignment with the PDP and the APC-led federal government.

The exchange highlights deepening divisions within the PDP as key figures continue to trade accusations over loyalty and the party’s future direction.
