Aminu Gwarzo, the former Deputy Governor, officially tendered his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This development was made public through a formal letter dated May 1, 2026, which Gwarzo submitted to the party’s leadership at the local government level.

In the correspondence addressed specifically to the Chairman of the ADC in Gwarzo Local Government Area, the former number two citizen of the state made it clear that his departure was effective immediately.

Gwarzo’s decision to leave the party appears to be a calculated move influenced by the shifting tides of Nigerian politics. He pointed to the need for a “new political direction” that better serves his long-term goals and the interests of his constituents.

According to the former deputy governor, this major step was not taken lightly but followed an extensive period of introspection and dialogue with his inner circle.

“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers across the state,” he noted in the letter.

The veteran politician highlighted that the current state of affairs in the country necessitated a re-evaluation of his partisan loyalty. He emphasized that he is seeking a platform that mirrors his commitment to progress and good governance.

“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he stated.

Gwarzo further maintained that his exit is rooted in a desire to remain relevant and impactful within the democratic space.

He elaborated that his current trajectory is focused on finding a home that prioritizes the welfare of the people of Kano. “My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values and sustainable development of our dear state,” he added. While he is parting ways with the ADC, Gwarzo expressed gratitude for the time he spent within the party ranks.

He took a moment to acknowledge the cooperation he enjoyed from the party’s hierarchy, stating, “I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect and support I received during my stay in the party.”

However Gwarzo has not yet announced which party he will be joining next.
