Gunmen have abducted six students of Nasarawa State University in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area, sparking a large-scale rescue operation by security agencies.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed it has intensified efforts to secure the safe release of the students following the incident, which happened on Wednesday night.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, the attackers invaded an off-campus hostel at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi around 9 pm on Wednesday.

He stated that six of the victims were students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, while another person present in the lodge was also taken away.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and assured the university community, students, and residents that security operatives were working to ensure the victims’ safe return.

A joint operation involving the police, Department of State Services (DSS), military, NSCDC, vigilantes and other tactical units has since been launched to track down the attackers.

The Area Commander in Akwanga has also been redeployed to support and coordinate field operations.

SP Nansel said the operation is focused on rescuing the victims unharmed, apprehending the abductors, and bringing them to justice.

He called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any useful information to the nearest security agency as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
