Let Americans take over Nigeria’s  Mandara mountains— Ndume pushes for US military base in Borno

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has called for the establishment of a United States military base in Borno State, saying such a move could help combat Boko Haram insurgents operating in the North-East.

Ndume made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics, where he spoke on security challenges facing the North-East region.

According to the lawmaker, the strategic location of the Mandara Mountains could provide security operatives with a vantage point for monitoring insurgent activities in parts of Borno State, including the Sambisa Forest.

“I am in full support. In fact, I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains, please. It will go a long way to cut down on insecurity,” Ndume said during the interview.

The senator argued that enhanced surveillance and military operations in the area could help disrupt movement routes and supply channels allegedly used by insurgent groups operating across parts of the North-East.

He also maintained that the Nigerian military requires additional resources and support to effectively tackle security threats in the region.

“You can’t do that without a team and enough boots on the ground. The Nigerian Army needs the resources,” he added.

The senator further noted that strengthening operations around the Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas could contribute to reducing the activities of insurgent groups and improve security in affected communities.
