Iyabo Obasanjo Returns To PDP After Dumping APC

A former senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just days after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

CityNews reports that she made the move on Monday in Abeokuta during the unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State.

Party members welcomed her at the PDP secretariat as she arrived from a recent trip to the United States.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said she believes the PDP has a strong chance in the 2027 governorship race.

She expressed support for the party’s candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and said she would share more details about her political issues at a later time.

She also said that she has several complaints she still plans to speak on but did not go into details during the event.

Her return comes shortly after she left the APC, where she said she felt pushed aside and not treated fairly by party leaders.

She also pointed to problems in how the party chose its governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, claiming that some of her supporters were not allowed into the venue during the process.

She added that although she later accepted the party’s decision at the time and showed support publicly, things changed after further discussions and visits that did not lead to any agreement.

“I actually have a lot to say, there are many people that we shall call out, but I won’t say anything now until you organize that official welcome back into the party.

“However, I want to greet our deputy governorship candidate. I am convinced that you will be our next deputy governor. I want to thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become the governor of the state for the first, second and third time.

“But this time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she stated.

Iyabo Obasanjo had joined the APC earlier in the year after leaving the PDP.

Before that, she served as Ogun State health commissioner from 2003 to 2007 and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011 before relocating abroad after her re-election loss.
