Keystone Bank Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting social inclusion as the bank recently partnered with the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to distribute wheelchairs and walking aid devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The initiative also featured a three-day capacity-building programme for PWDs who are local clinicians and artisans.

In a statement issued on Monday, the lender said the initiative is designed to strengthen access to mobility support services while building local capacity to provide sustainable assistance for persons with disabilities.

“Participants received hands-on training in the assembly, fitting, repair, maintenance, and adaptation of wheelchairs and other mobility aids, equipping them with the skills required to provide effective and personalized support within their communities,” the bank said.

Commenting on the initiative, Izore Lami-Bamawo, Group Head, Corporate Communications, Keystone Bank, reaffirmed the lender’s commitment to initiatives that create lasting social impact.

According to her, “Keystone Bank is proud to partner with the Akwa Ibom State Government and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on this impactful initiative. The programme reflects our shared commitment to promoting social inclusion, improving mobility, and enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities. We commend the Akwa Ibom State Government for championing this initiative, which aligns closely with Keystone Bank’s commitment to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training, Princess Emem Ibanga, Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Akwa Ibom State, described the intervention as a significant milestone in advancing mobility, independence, and dignity for persons with disabilities in the state.

Ibanga noted that the programme has strengthened the state’s capacity to provide sustainable mobility support services through locally trained clinicians and artisans, while commending Keystone Bank and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their partnership and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable groups.

On his part, Elder Enefiok Tom Ntem, representative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said the initiative reflects the Church’s commitment to demonstrating compassion and humanitarian service to those in need.

Beneficiaries of the initiative received customized wheelchairs and walking aids, while trained clinicians and artisans were issued certificates and pledged to apply their newly acquired skills in supporting persons with disabilities across Akwa Ibom State.

Keystone Bank’s participation in the initiative reinforces its commitment to corporate social responsibility and strategic partnerships that promote inclusion, empower vulnerable communities, and create sustainable social impact.

The bank has continued to collaborate with government and development partners to support initiatives that improve lives, expand access to essential services and contribute to national development.
