Peter Obi Reveals Why He May Not Be Alive By 2027 Elections

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, has alleged that his life is under serious threat and that he might be killed at any moment.

Obi alleged that the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government is deliberately frustrating his activities and those of other opposition figures, claiming the pressure has become so intense that he cannot guarantee he will still be alive before the 2027 general elections.

Obi made the allegations during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo. A clip of the interview was shared on Jideonwo’s X account on Wednesday.

Speaking on whether he expected to contest the 2027 presidential election, the former Anambra State governor said the circumstances surrounding his political activities have become increasingly difficult.

“I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility that, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive.”

He, however, maintained that he was not making a direct accusation against any specific individual, but insisted that his daily experiences suggested a deliberate pattern of obstruction.

“It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustrated every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal, it is not normal anymore,” he said.

“They won’t come directly and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their hand in virtually everything.”

When asked if he believed he was personally being singled out, Obi argued that the alleged intimidation extended beyond him to other members of the opposition.

“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with the necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all,” he said.

To support his claims, Obi recounted a recent incident at an airport, alleging that officials locked only his vehicle while ignoring others parked in the same area.

“I had a case recently at the airport, where people who work in the airport came and locked my car. And I said, ‘It’s me.’ The person in charge said he doesn’t care,” he said.

“But I said, ‘Look at the cars of other people.’ And you could see them talking to each other, as if, ‘Who is this one?’”

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party also claimed that the atmosphere had become so tense that some people avoided publicly acknowledging him for fear of possible repercussions.

“And I see people I know at the airport; they will not greet me because they are scared of what might happen if they do,” he said.

He further alleged that even some of his supporters had advised him against attending family celebrations because of concerns that his presence could attract unwanted attention.

“And I have people send me invitations and say, ‘My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come’,” he said.
