Osun APC Candidate Sends Strong Warning to Adeleke After Meeting Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has called on  Governor Ademola Adeleke to caution his supporters against further attacks in the state.

Oyebamiji made the appeal on Friday, August 21, 2026, after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting came a few days after the APC candidate lost the August 15 governorship election to Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, Oyebamiji said peace should be prioritised following the election.

He said political differences should not lead to attacks on residents or party supporters.

According to him, President Tinubu also stressed the importance of maintaining peace after elections.

“I met with our father, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and what Baba said was that the most important thing is to run every election with a peaceful mind.”

Oyebamiji said the interests of ordinary Nigerians should remain at the centre of political activities.

Government

“It is important for us that we Nigerians have to know that government is about people, and it’s about people.”

He consequently appealed to residents of Osun State to avoid actions that could worsen the political situation.

“And because it’s about people, it is important that we need to be peaceful, and I want to appeal to our people in Osun that they need to be peaceful.”

The APC candidate also directed his message at Adeleke, asking the governor to speak to his supporters and discourage any form of violence.

“I want to advise the governor that it is important to talk to his people. Violence kills our people and it’s not too good.

“He should talk to them so that all of us will be on the same page. Even this morning, about four or five people were attacked in my village. We have informed the security operatives.”

Oyebamiji identified his hometown, Ikire, as the location where the alleged attacks took place. He said security agencies had already been informed about the incident.

Oyebamiji did not provide the identities of those allegedly attacked or disclose the circumstances surrounding the incident. He also did not directly accuse Adeleke of ordering any attack.

Instead, his appeal was for the governor to use his influence to ensure that his supporters do not engage in acts capable of creating further tension.

The APC candidate also disclosed that his party had not reached a final decision on the outcome of the election.

He said the APC was still examining the results and would communicate its position after completing its review.

“For now, the APC is still examining the books, and by the time we spread our sheets, we’ll be able to get back to the public on what our own opinions and what decisions we want to take, but the take home is that they should be calm,” he said.

Adeleke defeated Oyebamiji in the election with 511,067 votes against the APC candidate’s 444,815 votes.

The margin was 66,252 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11.

The result secured Adeleke another four-year term as governor.

The contest also brought Adeleke into a direct battle with the APC structure led by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and other influential figures in the ruling party.

Despite his defeat, Oyebamiji has not announced any immediate legal challenge to the result.

His latest comments indicate that the APC is still studying the figures and other details from the election before deciding its next step.

His meeting with Tinubu also came less than 24 hours after Adeleke visited the same Presidential Villa.

Politics Nigeria earlier reported that Adeleke met Tinubu on Thursday, August 20, where he presented his Certificate of Return following his victory.

The governor thanked the President for what he described as the Federal Government’s role in allowing the election to take place without interference.

Tinubu had earlier congratulated Adeleke after INEC declared him winner and urged him to unite the people of Osun State.
