Tears and grief filled Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as family members, friends, colleagues and fans gathered to bid a final farewell to veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The 66-year-old actor was laid to rest in his hometown in accordance with Islamic rites, a day after his death.
A video from the burial showed mourners carrying Ogogo’s remains to the burial ground as the funeral rites took place.
Several Nollywood actors attended the burial, including Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya.
Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba were also present, alongside other colleagues, family members and well-wishers.
Ogogo’s close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, was seen crying as mourners tried to console him.
Actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi also paid tribute to Ogogo during an interview with journalists ahead of the burial, while praying for the deceased to attain Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial followed Ogogo’s death at 3pm on Sunday at the age of 66.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko announced his death on Instagram and said the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony would be held on Monday.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also announced the burial prayer for the veteran actor.
Ogogo’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.
Kaira had disclosed that doctors informed the family that they could no longer administer chemotherapy because of his condition, prompting the family to seek other treatment options.
Ogogo was a major figure in the Nigerian film industry, especially Yoruba-language cinema.
