Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for using rising foreign reserves to falsely portray economic recovery in Nigeria.
In a video address during the launch of the Makinde and Daura for Better Nigeria (MAD) Resetter Movement in Lagos, Makinde described the government’s narrative as a “political gimmick” that overlooks the widespread hunger affecting millions.
“Statistics mean little when families are struggling to meet basic needs,” he asserted, comparing the situation to a household where the head boasts about savings while everyone else goes hungry.
Makinde argued that true economic progress should be measured by the well-being of the citizens, advocating for a return to federalism and multiparty democracy as the foundation for national governance.
He called on citizens to reject government propaganda and participate actively in reshaping the nation’s economic and social landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We need a comprehensive national reset,” he urged.Hassan Felix, Director-General of the Makinde-Daura Campaign Organisation, backed these claims, questioning the government’s assertions of recovery amid rising unemployment and insecurity.
“The time of deceit is over,” he stated, demanding urgent change.
Similarly, Dr. Emmanuel Dennis, Director of Volunteers for the campaign, highlighted the need for an issue-based movement rather than one focused solely on entertainment.
He pointed to the challenges presented by climbing petrol prices and stagnant wages.
The event also saw the endorsement of APM’s Lagos State governorship candidate, Adelaja Adeoye, who promised an inclusive administration free from the influence of political godfathers. He urged voters to resist the temptation of vote-buying.
“Your PVC is your power,” Adeoye emphasized, encouraging supporters to prioritize genuine governance over short-lived financial gains.
As the political climate intensifies, Makinde’s call for systemic reform resonates deeply, emphasizing the urgent need for policies that address the everyday struggles of Nigerians.
