An amendment sponsored by United States Congressman Gregory Steube to withhold all US assistance to Nigeria until the country meets specific conditions to tackle violence has been adopted by the House of Representatives. President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, has instituted a legal action against the purported Director General of the Presidential Foreign Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi. Gbajabiamila sued Adeyemi for alleged defamation. In the suit filed before a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, high court, Gbajabiamila is seeking N10 billion as general damages, N5 billion for aggravated damages, N200 million as the cost of the action, and an order compelling Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and apology in five national newspapers. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has restored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s revised timetable and guidelines for the 2027 general elections, clearing the way for the electoral process to continue as planned. Mr. Tanko Habila Wisdom, father of late Miss Mary Habila, has rejected plans for an autopsy on his daughter’s remains and withdrawn from further investigation into her death. In an Affidavit of Withdrawal filed before the High Court of Justice, Ebonyi State, Mr. Habila, of Sabon Gari Noh, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, said the family wants the body released for burial without further medical procedures. The family of the deceased physiotherapist, Mary Habila, who was found dead at the residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has expressed opposition to an autopsy on their daughter.
