The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused Governor Francis Nwifuru of moves aimed at weakening opposition politics in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections. The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has claimed that the governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, was neither disqualified nor forced out of its governorship primary race. Yilwatda, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, insisted that Fubara voluntarily withdrew after scaling the party’s screening process. President Bola Tinubu has approved a 50% discount on all passenger train services operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC. This is to cushion transportation costs for Nigerians during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The president said the discount will take effect from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, until Monday, June 1, 2026. Passengers travelling on NRC routes across the country under the arrangement, will pay half of the existing approved fares within the six-day period.

The Federal High Court Abuja, has dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify former President Goodluck Jonathan from participating in the 2027 presidential election. The court described the case as an abuse of court process and subsequently struck it out. In its ruling, the court awarded a cost of ₦20 million against the plaintiff in favour of Jonathan. The court also ordered the plaintiff to pay an additional ₦1 million cost in favour of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
