Uyo – A 40-year-old man, Joshua Kalu Chukwu, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Uyo over rape of a 12-year-old girl. Presided over by Justice Okon Okon, the court found the accused guilty of sexually exploiting the girl, punishable under the Child Rights Law of Akwa Ibom State. Dr Godwin Oyiwona, Benue Supervisory Commssioner for Health, says cases of Yellow Fever disease have been reported in three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. Oyiwona disclosed this at the flag-off of vaccination against yellow fever on Monday in Makurdi. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has sacked four of his technical assistants for dereliction of duty. The sack is contained in a statement signed by Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and made available to the Newsjaunts on Saturday. The affected officers, according to the statement, include Cletus Ogbonna, John Osi, Tochukwu Ali and Olachi Arua. “All affected officers are directed to handover all government property in their possession to the SSG before the close of work on Monday, Nov. 23. “The officers are to comply strictly with this directive,” the statement said.
